About Conference

On behalf of the organizing committee, we are pleased to invite you for the 2nd International Conference on Insights & Management of COPD “ICONIC 2016” being held at Hotel Westin KoregaonPark in Pune, India on 5th to 7th February 2016. Previous conference, ICONIC 2014 was inaugurated by Shri. Keshav Desiraju, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. ICONIC marked the beginning of a historic journey towards revamping the medical education and healthcare system in India. ICONIC 2014 geared towards structuring preventive healthcare policies and medical management of this silent epidemic – COPD strengthening its roots in the country. ICONIC 2014 was just a small step forward towards changing the approach of health care providers and policy-makers towards the silent epidemic of COPD growing in India. Like-minded and motivated team members from Johns Hopkins University (USA) led by Prof Shyam Biswal and Chest Research Foundation (India) led by Dr. Sundeep Salvi along with eminent Chest physicians from India came together hoping to take this further. ICONIC 2016 conference would focus more on the clinical diagnosis, novel therapies and newer diagnostic procedures in the field of COPD Management.


This year the major focus of the organizers would be to propagate knowledge exchange and scientific discussions between overseas faculty and young Chest Physicians of India by means of scientific sessions and workshops, to shape-up the healthcare of the country towards readiness to manage the second largest emerging killer disease in this country - COPD.


The main objectives of this conference are to
(a) update the knowledge of practicing physicians in India in order to improve the quality of patient care; (b) gain better understanding of the role of environmental factors, respiratory infections and early life exposures on lung development, the risk of COPD and the co-morbidities associated with COPD; and (c) chalk out new directions for research and policy change that will help reduce the burden of COPD in India. The faculty speakers of ICONIC are some of the leading researchers and clinicians in the field of COPD from India as well as across the globe who have contributed immensely the field of respiratory medicine and are coming together under one roof to offer an academic feast over the 2 days of the conference. We hope this conference will spearhead new directions for translational research and health policy change in India. It is an honor and privilege to invite you to participate in this Conference.
